Benefits of Exercise

People choose to exercise for a variety of reasons. There are so many benefits to be gained from participating in physical workouts. Here’s a list of some of them:


This is one important reason that most people say they want. But what does it mean? They want to feel good,look good and be able to tackle things like running upstairs without getting out of breath.

Then there are those who wish to take it a step further and prepare themselves to take part in activity events such as organised runs/races. Maybe fun runs for charity or even a marathon. It could be they wish to take up cycling to do a long bike ride. Perhaps they want to go on a rigorous walking holiday. There are probably as many reasons as there are people who come to a group fitness training session.

Fitness also includes the other items on this list.

Weight Loss

This is another biggie which is cited by participants. Of course,activity alone doesn’t produce massive weight loss. The Activity Plus sessions should be undertaken in conjunction with a sensible diet. Then all the surplus fat will drop away. The exercise will help to tone the body so that there is less flabby skin left which would happen with diet control alone.

Exercise helps to lose the fat whereas relying on diet alone lean muscle and fluids can be lost which will be harmful.  Weight loss,to be beneficial,must be carried out in a well controlled manner.

Weight Control

Because of our approach to fitness we encourage levels of exercise and diet which can be maintained over the long term rather than being based on explosive short term efforts. There is nothing worse than the yo-yo effect of extreme activity and stringent diets.

Reduction in Stress

It is amazing what a bit of activity can do to alleviate stress levels. For a start it is difficult to remain stressed or anxious whilst being actively involved in one of our sessions. Well that stands to reason,doesn’t it? But the point here is that it continues long after the activity has finished.

Many a time people have said that  the stress of the day has fallen away and they are then able to get everything into proper perspective.

Improved Self Esteem

When you achieve the satisfaction that comes with the completion of each session and begin to see a different  you in the mirror your self esteem will improve to a level you probably never felt possible. People do not come to Activity Plus sessions to improve their self esteem – it is something that just happens. This is a real feel good factor that shouldn’t be overlooked.

This translates in greater energy, confidence and vitality leading to a much happier lifestyle.

Muscle Toning

Muscle toning is often the reason that people go to the gym where they concentrate on particular parts of the body such as the abs or the biceps. In every Activity Plus session each part of the body is strengthened and therefore the whole muscular system is toned.

Whole body toning means that the individual looks good all over. We do not aim at building freaks. Following the programme leads to a good looking body that you will be proud to show off on the beach,or anywhere else.

Increased Muscular Strength

Along with toning comes strength. Using the muscles means that you will strengthen them for any life activity. There is an old saying “If you don’t use it you lose it”. This is true of muscles in particular. Part of modern day living is that we are mainly sedentary. Because we have no need to use certain muscle groups they tend to waste away. By attending JogFit sessions you will be bringing little used muscles back into life.

Improved Posture

Muscle toning and strength lead to a much improved posture. Again we can blame today’s lifestyle for leading us to sitting or standing in a slouched manner. By bringing the muscles back to doing the job they were made for the all over posture is improved. So come along to the JogFit sessions and get rid of the weak,rounded shoulders,the squashed in chest,the lower back problems and the aching legs when they are asked to walk a few metres.

Improved Metabolism

Did you know that you can control your metabolism? Many people seem to believe that they have to put up with the metabolism they were born with. Not so. Our biological make up decrees that we need certain amounts of exercise and calories,One of the erroneous beliefs is that if we take in fewer calories we will lose weight. Well yes this works up to a point. However,the body says “Hey there are not enough calories coming in better close down the metabolic system”.

With a proper plan that includes a sensible diet and sufficient exercise you can increase your metabolism and burn more calories. This is the way the body was designed to work so go along with it and watch the fat disappear and a good shape develop.

Increased Cardio-Respiratory Efficiency

If you haven’t undertaken any exercise in a while you will find it difficult at the start to push yourself and be able to breathe efficiently and keep your heart from feeling as though it will burst. This is really down to lack of use.

Part of what we train you to do is recognise how hard to push yourself and still manage breathing and heart rate. At this point it doesn’t really matter what the exercises are. It’s about recognising your limits. Once you can do this we can help you to build into fitness.

Increased Endurance

Most people seem to be able to rustle up energy and strength for a short burst. We want all our participants to cope with exercise for longer and longer stretches of time. This endurance has to be built up from one Activity Plus session to the next. Our trainers will give you all the motivation and encouragement you need to work towards your goals,all of which will need a certain amount of endurance.

Increased Skeletal Strength

We tend to think that all strength comes from the muscles but they are only one part of the equation. The skeleton,made up from bones,ligaments and tendons,also needs to be strengthened in order to bear the weight put upon it. When the muscles pull the bones involved need to be able to act or resist.

Whenever we walk for example,we are using muscles to move the bones but these bones have to be able to withstand the continuous thumping on to the ground and have the pressure of our weight on them. Again,the more exercise that is undertaken the stronger the skeleton will become.

Lowered Risk of Osteoporosis

By making the bones work and thereby becoming stronger the risk of osteoporosis is also lowered. Regular exercise before (and after) the menopause in women will greatly enhance the density of the bone structure.

It is well known that women are particularly prone to the onset of osteoporosis after the menopause. What is not often realised is that men can also suffer from this risk at a later stage of life.

Improvement in Resting Heart Rate

People who take regular exercise will notice that when resting they may have a particularly low heart rate. This is because during exercise the heart becomes used to pumping much more efficiently to circulate the blood with its supplies of oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body which are calling for it.  So when at rest the heart needs to do much less to keep the circulation in tip top condition.

Improvement in Cholesterol Levels

Among people who do not bother to exercise there is a great risk of the build up of a fatty substance called cholesterol. Now this substance is necessary but if the levels are too high it can lead to an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Exercise can help to lower or even eliminate this risk.

Lowered Risk of Diabetes

We are looking at Type 2 Diabetes here because it has been found that maintaining an active lifestyle and controlling weight can prevent the onset of this debilitating disease.

Overall Improvement in Health

As can be seen by all the foregoing points,if you have an active lifestyle and a balanced diet then you will have the chance of not only having good health but also retaining good health. It is all about  all about sensible,ongoing programmes to keep you in good,all round fitness.
